When He Calls Us to the Unknown

It used to be that I never felt I was truly home.  The Scriptures speaking of our souls belonging to another Kingdom resonated deeply, and they still do.

But it took a journey to Canada two years ago and living on an island the size of a city block to etch the truth into my soul - that "the Most High is [my] dwelling place".

Since then, I've found home to be in a thousand places.

It turns out, the place where you belong is wherever He tells you to go.

This is how we live as sojourners - we go where He sends, no matter how frightened we may be of the outcome.  Scared senseless, we step out.  What if God's call on your life is the path that terrifies you the most!?  Home is wherever His purposes collide with our passions.

This is something that will look different for everyone.  We have each been given unique roles to play in the Kingdom's story.

So what will we do?  Will we choose to trust in God's call on our lives, believing that He will uphold it and empower us for what He has called us to?  Will we identify with our new citizenship and dare to hold tight to He who is our Home in all places, all circumstances, despite all our greatest fears?

He has chosen us to be His people.  Will we deny the grace we are heirs of?  He told Moses to etch onto the stone tablets "you shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain".  Maybe this isn't just about swearing?  Maybe He wants us to seriously consider whether or not we should call ourselves by His name - as those who belong to and in Christ if we are ignoring His call on our lives.

And so I would ask you, dear reader - if you belong to Christ, if you belong in Christ, if He has asked you to do something which is beyond your level of comfort...

When You Wonder If You're Qualified

There's a whole, wide world out there. Does it sometimes seem too wide?  A bit too big for little old you and me? "No Mere Mortals".....Musings from Nationals

A few days ago, I returned home from my last national tournament as a Bible quizzer.  In the days following, there has been one thought that is yet to leave my mind - "There are no ordinary people.  You have never talked to a mere mortal..." (C. S. Lewis) Lewis goes on to say "... Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors..." I met a lot of people this past week at this event, many different types.  Some of them I've known for a while, while others I had met a few months prior and I knew I would see them again next season.  But sadly there were also several others I met this weekend that I know I may never see again. He Asks For Who We Are: (how what you have is enough to give, and why)

Currently I am in the throws of preparing for a season of camp ministry close to St. Joseph, Missouri.  This will be my fifth (and final) summer doing so. It would be a lie to say there aren't many mixed emotions involved in the process of preparing. I am choosing to make this my last time there not because there are some "divisions", "quarrels" or "scandals" about the place. It served me well, and I have given my all serving the people there. I am leaving because the direction He intends me to pursue with my life now lies elsewhere. But please, do not let your eyes glaze over at my reasonings.
